The police station is a dreary place, its an old building that isnt waterproof. The cast of characters at this station, are weirder than the station itself. The backdrop of this f asics tigers ilm is well done, a bad lighted place that leaks that is suppose to be the police station and how it always is storming gives that feeling that something is really wrong here. The film slowly plays with the viewers nerves. Its one of those films that makes a person wonder what is going on and why than being just dull. The movie isnt exactly a fast pace film but it isnt that slow either.
The acting chemistry between Polanski and Depardieu is pretty good, they are the main characters, its inspector vs. could be murderer, each using their wits against each other. The ending is different, it works for the film but may get some people scratching their heads and wonder. For this reviewer it makes sense enough to work and the aspect of it, makes it very eerie and better than the usual whodunit. Overall this movie is between a 3 12 to a 4 star picture. It was made almost 20 years but still feels fresh!
